As part of the Year of the Teacher, esteemed alumnus Dr. David Lazerson will visit Buffalo State on February 27, 2014.
"Dr. Laz" is a Buffalo native and a graduate of the Buffalo State special education program and is one of 50 extraordinary educators featured in a new book, American Teacher: Heroes in the Classroom, by Katrina Fried (Welcome Books, 2013).
Dr. Laz teaches K-12 special education music & drama therapy in Florida. He is well known for his work with students with profound special needs (such as autism, Downs-syndrome, cerebral palsy, and medically fragile conditions), utilizing an experimental approach focusing on expressive arts, and assistive technology. An accomplished musician, he founded and directs Project CURE the World, an initiative built in response to the 1990s race riots in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Project CURE (Communication, Understanding, Respect, Education) offers a variety of meaningful programs to "foster racial harmony in today's global village," focusing on individuals with special needs.
It is a gift to have such a creative, inspiring, and "awakening" individual visit Buffalo State!
Dr. Laz's presentation - to be held on February 27 at 4:30 pm until 6:30 pm in Butler 210 - is free and open to all campus and community members. View event flier.
