The International PDS in Lusaka, Zambia provides opportunities for teacher candidates from Buffalo State to gain exposure to Zambian culture and educational system by immersing in teaching math, science and social studies. Participants Buffalo State teacher candidates and faculty/staff travel to Zambia in the early summer for two and a half weeks.
Lusaka, Zambia (view map) is located in the southern part of the central plateau of the Republic of Zambia. Lusaka is the country's largest city and capital. Zambia, a landlocked country located in southeast Africa, has a tropical climate with and average temperature of 68°F and two seasons - rainy from November to April, and dry from May to October. English is the official language of Lusaka, although there are 8 recognized regional languages.

Final program costs are determined once all participants are enrolled. Some expenses are included in a one-time fee applied to Buffalo State tuition bill. Other expenses are paid separately by each student before and during travel.

Applications are accepted through the School of Education Office of the Dean during open application periods only. Applicants must submit a completed application form with an essay of intent, one academic reference, and a copy of past grades and current course registration. Handwritten applications are acceptable. Submit directly or via email to Tamara Horstman-Riphahn, Bacon Hall 306.
