“Because of Buffalo State, I gained the knowledge to be a successful administrator.”
Athletics have always played an important role in Lindsay Bergman's life. After obtaining a master's degree in Sport Managament, she wanted to share her enthusiasm for athletics with students. She knew of Buffalo State's wonderful reputation and in-person program, so she decided to pursue the School Building and School District Leader Certificate of Advanced Studies.
During her time at Buffalo State, Bergman appreciated the sense of community that the college offered. Along with the classmates she befriended, she was influenced by professors Fran Paskowitz and Bob Christmann, who provided a forum for students and faculty to communicate. These mentorships and strong support system help her navigate the day-to-day issues that she faces as an administrator.
Her goal as an educator has always been to create the best opportunities for students. Her advice to fellow teachers is to remember that “it is all about the students—make sure that everything that is done is based around the idea that we are all here for the students. The most important thing to me is providing opportunities for students to try new things and find a passion for what it is they are doing.”
Bergman is now able to use what she learned in the program in her new role as Assistant Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics for the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Union Free School District. Her experience at Buffalo State gave her the network and skills she needed to become a successful and effective administrator.
