Buffalo State University was featured on WIVB-TV 4 for its event held this past weekend in honor of the Class of 2020.
Class of 2020 graduates returned to campus May 24 and 25 to participate in such quintessential end-of-year activities as school-specific receptions, a Senior Send-Off Party, and crossing the stage—activities that were upended by the COVID-19 pandemic. The experience offered graduates the chance to belatedly celebrate their accomplishments with loved ones.
The WIVB article, “Buffalo State University’s Class of 2020 Walks the Stage,” and video coverage featured interviews with Chad Williams, ’20, and Katelyn Brickhouse, director of alumni engagement.
“Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we were not able to have recognition be given to us,” Williams said, “so I feel like it was a need, for those—like I’m not a first-generation graduate myself, but there are many out there, and just graduates in general—to get their recognition.”
“This is an experience they really missed out on,” Brickhouse said, “getting to hear their parents cheer for them, getting that, you know, acknowledgment, getting the campus rallied around them, to kind of have their moment.”
