Wendy Paterson, dean of the School of Education at Buffalo State College, recently spoke with WIVB-TV Channel 4 on how to keep kids busy during winter recess in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking with WIVB’s Sunday morning show Wake Up, Paterson offered words of advice to parents on how to keep their kids busy in a February 14 piece titled “Making the Best of a Staycation.”
It’s important to limit screen time for kids, Paterson said, especially now that children are on computers all day.
“Find a great story or a story that has a series, like the Harry Potter series,” she said in the piece. “Put up some comfy pillows, make a reading corner. Do something that children can seek out and enjoy, and you can read with them.”
Even though kids will be home during the time off, it shouldn’t feel like school, and they should have free time, Paterson said.
