Buffalo State has always prided itself on making a world-class education available to students from all walks of life. But today, affording college is an increasing challenge for many students, including those in the middle class who often have the most trouble securing financial assistance.
More than eighty percent of Buffalo State students receive financial aid; however, less than 65 percent have their financial needs fully met. With enormous student loan debt weighing down many college graduates, providing scholarships and other assistance is more important than ever.
To ensure that our students have access to the educational experiences they need to thrive in the twenty-first century, Buffalo State is embarking on a landmark fundraising initiative —Transforming Lives: A Campaign for Buffalo State. Over the next three years, Buffalo State is seeking to raise $20 million in philanthropic support from alumni, friends, businesses, and foundations to build on our long-established strengths and provide a platform for future growth. Those donations will assist Buffalo State in myriad ways, from creating student scholarships to purchasing specialized learning equipment to establishing endowed chairs and professorships.
The campaign officially kicks off with a celebration on Friday, September 28, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall. The entire campus community is invited to attend. During the event, those whose lives have been transformed by Buffalo State—as well as those who have helped transform lives at Buffalo State—will share their testimonials. Following the inspiring talks, everyone will enjoy great music, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres at a tent party in front of Rockwell Hall. In addition, campaign leaders will discuss how alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and students can participate in the campaign.

“The campaign is about impact—creating more scholarships for students, enhancing opportunities to study abroad, increasing student research, and supporting our faculty with the equipment and experiences they need to be great teachers,” said Susanne P. Bair, vice president for institutional advancement. “During this campaign, we hope to create a culture of philanthropy throughout the campus. This is a historic, exciting time for Buffalo State.”
