It is the season for voting, and in this “election” you have a chance to play a part in Buffalo State history: Your vote decides the new name for the Bengal, the college’s beloved mascot.
In April 2012, Buffalo State ran an open call for suggestions to help put a name to this familiar face.
Some terrific recommendations poured in via e-mail and through Facebook. A top ten list including the most frequently submitted names was assembled and is now ready for voting.
Presenting the Candidates:
A Little Bit of History
Buffalo State did not have an official mascot for its sports teams until 1969. That year, a contest was held to find a mascot and the Bengal tiger was put forward. A perfect match for the college’s official colors of black and orange, the Bengal has been a familiar presence at athletics events and homecoming ever since. Yet, the Bengal has never had an official name. Until now.
