A special graduation celebration was held at the Wilmot Cancer Center in Rochester on Saturday, February 15, according to a number of Rochester media outlets including News 8, WROC-TV.
Christine Szafran, who is a student in the master’s program in mathematics education, is planning to take part in the May commencement exercises. Szafran's mother, Denise, has been hoping to see her daughter receive her degree. However, Denise was diagnosed with terminal cancer last summer.
Wendy Paterson, dean of the School of Education, and Christine’s adviser, David Wilson, associate professor of mathematics, worked with Wilmot Cancer Center to hold the special celebration.
