“Professional educators are just that….professional! They need to demonstrate passion and commitment and a work ethic that ensures students are learning.”
According to Lynn Fusco, superintendent of the Niagara Wheatfield Central School District, the field of education is constantly and profoundly changing. She believes that new and emerging educators need to be aware of, and flexible to, current and future trends.
When Fusco first entered the path of higher education she did so with the internal motivation of wanting to stay ahead, to remain on the “bleeding edge of service to children with disabilities.” As Fusco’s career progressed, so did her motivation. Now she leans toward the challenge, legacy, permanence and sustainability of the impacts she makes on others’ lives.
As a student in the Exceptional Education department, Fusco built her confidence to new heights through hard work and pushing through any challenge she encountered. At Buffalo State Fusco found herself engaged in challenging work that allowed her to hone her thinking, analysis and problem solving skills. She supported herself fully while attending school fulltime, and feels that Buffalo State made this possible. The EXE program allowed for her to complete her studies as a well-rounded individual with a plethora of personal skills reaching beyond the coursework alone. And with the encouragement of her professors, and the impact they had on her life, Fusco developed the confidence to pursue her doctorate.
“A strong work ethic has always been my driving force,” says Fusco. Combined with an affordable and practical education, this work ethic helped mold Fusco into the independent and successful woman that she is today.
